Short and sweet: the most important information about Translingua and our language services.
Translingua translates into 38 languages.
Ideally, you will send us editable file formats from applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. We can also work with PDFs, but it’s more error-prone. In addition to Microsoft Office formats, we can also work with .idml, .xliff, .xlm, .json and other types of files.
Send us reference materials such as other texts in the target language, glossaries, style guides or wording guides.
Yes, we can work with the .idml exchange format. In order for us to see the layout, we will also need the PDF. However, you don’t have to send us the entire InDesign package with images and fonts.
It’s possible, but there are some disadvantages. It’s better for you to export web texts from your CMS and then import the translations. We have corresponding interfaces and will be happy to help you determine the optimal setup.
Translingua treats all customer data as strictly confidential. Over our many years of company history, we’ve never experienced a data breach. As part of our annual ISO 17100 audits, our data protection provisions are checked by external auditors.
You can schedule an appointment in advance to visit us at our offices on Geibelstrasse 35 in Zurich. Plus, we’re available via email and by phone on weekdays throughout the year from 8 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 5 pm.
Translingua AG was founded by Alberto Meyer in Zurich in 1975. This makes Translingua one of the first professional translation agencies in Switzerland.
Translingua offers its corporate customers certified translations.
We charge a minimum fee per language for very short texts.
We are available for you on weekdays all year round from 8 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 5 pm. You can contact us by phone, via email, or – by appointment only – in person at our offices.
Translingua offers specialist translations in a wide range of industries and fields of knowledge.
Translingua works with professional specialists who can proofread your texts and translations. Our fees are based on the time it takes to proofread translations. We make sure that the translation is accurate and also check the orthography, grammar and punctuation. Upon request, we can also check for additional elements like terminology and style.
Translingua regularly translates books, including teaching materials, scientific literature, anniversary books and works of fiction.
Unfortunately, we can’t offer a general answer. The price is determined by the text volume, which can vary greatly depending on formatting. Plus, the price also depends on the service package you choose.
Since its founding, Translingua has specialised in translations for businesses, associations, non-profit organisations and public agencies. We offer tailored solutions that provide the desired quality at the best price. You can find examples from our day-to-day work here. We will be happy to discuss your current needs and challenges in terms of foreign languages.
Bundling translations makes a lot of sense. Larger volumes generally result in better translation quality and lower prices.
Thanks to its customer base, which has grown over time, Translingua is able to professionally translate texts from a wide range of specialisms and industries. We know our areas of expertise and will turn down projects if we are unable to offer specialists in that field and/or specific language pair.
Translingua has the expertise to offer a wide range of services and is the first port of call for its corporate customers for all linguistic matters. Specifically, in addition to editing and proofreading, we also offer subtitling, transcription, and project and terminology management. Here is an overview of our services.

Translingua can evaluate your current situation and create a tailored solution for you based on your needs. With this process, we are able to not only reduce costs and increase efficiency but also achieve a significant increase in quality.
What are the steps involved in a translation project?
- When we receive a request, we discuss the most important aspects like file formats and deadlines, offer our advice, and create an offer.
- Once you have placed an order, we prepare the files (conversion, inclusion of translation aids, processing of links or tags, classification of repetitions in the text, and much more).
- Next, one of our specialists with many years of experience in the relevant field translates the text. Translingua’s translators only translate into their native languages and have a university or college degree in languages and/or communication. If any questions about content arise during translation, we resolve them internally or forward them to the customer.
- Once we receive the translation, our native-speaker linguists check the translation against the source text. They ensure that the content has been correctly translated and also review orthography, grammar, punctuation and style.
- Lastly, our project managers give the text a final check.
- The translation is delivered to the customer on the agreed-upon date at the latest.
This workflow is not etched in stone and can be individually adapted to fit the customer’s requirements.
And our work doesn’t stop once we’ve delivered your files: if you have any questions, we’re happy to help as part of our quality guarantee.
Generally, Translingua counts the number of characters in the source text (including spaces). Naturally, the price can also be converted into word, line or standard page rates. For editing, proofreading, copywriting, transcription and other services, we charge an hourly rate. Important: We never charge a base fee. Express surcharges or additional work is only charged if it has been agreed upon in advance.
Normally, we deliver within 2 to 3 business days. If it’s urgent, we coordinate with the customer to find the best possible delivery date.
The price level depends on several aspects. The most important are:
- The type of service in question: Machine translation with post-editing is less expensive than human translation. Furthermore, proofreading can be omitted upon request, which further reduces the cost.
- Text volume: Translingua offers its regular customers a permanent discount. Larger projects like book translations or entire websites in one or more languages also receive an additional discount.
Translingua is always happy to provide you with an offer.
Translingua works with numerous companies from a wide variety of industries. For confidentiality reasons, we only name a few of our customers and only with their express permission. On the Translingua references page, you’ll find customer testimonials and case studies.
Customers regularly confirm that we provide high linguistic and service quality. Translingua has been on the Swiss market for many years, and stands for the often imitated but seldom achieved “Swiss finish”. Our goal is to establish long-term partnerships that strive for continuous quality and cost optimisation. We are transparent, proactive and never experiment at the expense of quality – and we offer our corporate customers the Translingua quality guarantee. Plus, Translingua pursues a sustainability strategy with quantifiable goals.
You don’t need to highlight or delete repetitions, because our translation memory automatically detects any text that was already translated, also across documents, and always translates it the same way. Repetitions are also discounted accordingly. The discount depends on how closely the text matches and whether or not it comprises single sentences, short passages or longer portions of text.
